You Get To Write What Happens Next

Your past may explain you, but it doesn't get to decide your future. Here's how to take back the pen.

You Get To Write What Happens Next

I want to start with the sentence that changed my life: your past explains you, but it does not get to decide you.

I was a mom at fourteen. I have buried people I was not ready to bury. I have sat with a bank balance that did not match the amount of work I was putting in. For years I thought those facts were my ceiling. They were not. They were my starting line.

Survival is a skill, not an identity

If you learned to survive, you learned something powerful. You learned to move fast, read a room, stretch a dollar, hold a family together. Do not be ashamed of that. But survival was never meant to be the whole story. It was meant to keep you alive long enough to build something better.

Here is what I see in women all the time: they are still running survival strategies in a season that is asking for strategy. Working harder when the answer is pricing. Saying yes to everything when the answer is focus. Holding the whole thing alone when the answer is support.

Three questions that hand you back the pen

When I sit with someone who feels stuck, we do not start with a budget. We start with these:

1. What story am I still telling about myself? Write it down in one sentence. Most people are shocked to see it in writing, because once it is on paper it stops sounding like fact and starts sounding like a belief.

2. What is actually happening right now? Not the fear. The facts. What is the income, what is the debt, what is the calendar, what is the truth?

3. What is the next right step? One step. Not twelve. The plan that works is the plan you will actually do this week.

The decision comes before the plan

People want a strategy to make them feel ready. It works the other way around. You decide first — that this next chapter belongs to a stronger version of you — and then the strategy has somewhere to live.

That is the whole idea behind Rise Stronger™. Not motivation. A decision, and then structure behind the decision: your identity, your money, your work, your life, your environment, your courage and your execution.

What I would tell you if we were sitting together

You are not behind. You are early in a chapter you have never written before, and it feels unfamiliar because it is. Take the pen. Write one honest page. Then do the next right thing.

A stronger you is possible. Start today.
